Civil Rights Information
The Ludington Area School District is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, age, religion, sex, height, weight, marital status, or disabling condition. These civil rights apply to course selection as well as employees. The Ludington Board of Education has adopted policies which support the regulations of Title VI, Title IX and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974.
If a resident, student, or employee of the Ludington School District believes any part of the school organization has inadequately applied the principles or regulations of these acts, he/she may bring forward a complaint (which will be referred to as a grievance) to the appropriate school official as follows:
Students – through the building principal to the Title VI/Title IX/Section 504/Civil Rights Coordinator.
Staff Members – in accordance with applicable employment contract grievance procedures. If the grievance has not been satisfactorily settled, further appeal may be made through the Regional Office of Civil Rights, Department of Health, Education and Welfare. (Informal step should involve the Title VI/Title IX/Section 504/Civil Rights Coordinator).
Citizens at Large – directly to Carol Nelson, Section 504/Title VI/Title IX/Civil Rights Coordinator, at Ludington Area Schools, 809 East Tinkham Avenue, Ludington, Michigan, 49431, telephone 231/845-7303. Section 504 grievance procedures have been updated and forms for use in Section 504 meetings have been updated to include a process for Mediation/Hearing.
