Foster Elementary Points of Pride
  • Over 150 of our 250 students took part in our Young Author’s program. Of these students, 55 students were judged winners at the ISD level and 8 received honorable mention awards.
  • Ninety-five percent of our students read the required points during our reading month to attend West Shore Community College in the spring. Ninety-seven percent of our students read the required amount to attend Johnny’s Skating Party in the fall
  • Our Accelerated Reading program continues as an outstanding way for students to enjoy and improve in the area of reading.
  • The Foster PTC and the Ludington Optimist sponsored “Optimist Student Challenge: All-Star Readers” (OSCAR) program continued. Every third grade student had the opportunity to meet with a mentor and receive books for a home library. All of these students received a book and an OSCAR statuette at one of our three gala OSCAR nights. DOW Chemical of Ludington employees assisted us as mentors during the program.
  • We celebrated the success of our students in the following ways: Math facts board, Accelerated Reader showcase, the birthday board, the Honor Roll board, Reading Month Celebration, two musical programs, student of the month, and several media publications.
  • Read Naturally began this year to support our title-one and at-risk programs.
  • The Foster staff participated in many in-services throughout the year totaling over 850 hours of professional development at the ISD.
  • The Foster PTC continued its long tradition of support for our school. Money and manpower helped our students and staff to have an outstanding year due to the efforts of the group.
  • Our student council again led many activities that promoted caring, leisure time activities, and reading.
  • Luncheon speakers were invited to speak to our students about their chosen careers during our lunch period.
  • Students had the opportunity to participate in many sports during the year and throughout the summer. The Elks Hoop Shoot was held again at Foster for 3rd-6th grade students.
