Mathcounts is a nationwide math competition for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. It works much like a school sports program in that it combines skill-building with a series of competitions at the regional, state and national levels aimed at increasing students' interest in math and math-related careers. Students in Manistee, Mason, Lake and Oceana counties provide a fourth level of competition provided through the cooperation of the Mason-Lake Educational Service District and local engineers.
O. J. DeJonge has a long history of success in the Mathcounts program. Mathcounts preparation and competition occurs January through March and all students are invited to participate. If interested, please see advisor Cindy Hill.
