Our Vision

In an environment which recognizes that learning is relational, students will engage in the complex questions that face them--in the world, the workplace, and continuing education--and use the perspective and skills of each field to address these issues.

LHS Vision Statement:  A History

Ludington High School teachers, led by our School Improvement Team and principals, created this vision statement based on our own beliefs about how students learn, what they need to know and be able to do in order to achieve success after high school, and the critical role teachers and the entire school community play in the education of students.

The LHS faculty researched best practices in education to determine what our key themes—engaging and relational teaching—really look like on a day-to-day basis in the classroom.  The overall goal is to help teachers be reflective, and look with “new eyes” at what constitutes powerful teaching and deep student learning.  By this process, we have established a collaborative culture whereby it is expected that teachers will share ideas and support one another’s efforts, and that important education issues will be discussed at faculty meetings.

Much of the work surrounding this vision was accomplished on Professional Learning Communities (PLC) days, and we appreciate the community’s support of the occasional no-student Fridays that allow teachers to focus on improving their practice.  To the LHS faculty, PLC days are intense periods of research-based discussion and related work that ultimately result in better teaching and learning.
