MHSAA restrictions: Middle School and High School
Due to the Health Department limitations ALL Fall tournaments, Winter practices and competitions are suspended until 1/15/2021.
MS Boys Basketball:
Athletes need to have COVID form and Physical form / MHSAA health survey turned in prior to being allowed to practice. SEE BELOW
Athletic fees need to be turned in by the 1st competition.
MHSAA Health Questionnaire/ Waiver: -
If a physical is on file from last year at the Athletic Office, this waiver can be used
in place of the annual MHSAA sports physical. ALL of this years 6th graders and MOST of this
years 7th graders will still need an annual physical completed by their doctor.

LASD Participation Waiver for Athletics, Clubs and Activities:
As you may be aware, conflicting guidance has been provided to school districts pertaining to a return to athletics. Executive order issued by Governor Whitmer and guidance from the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) have provided for a return to fall sports, while the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the District Health Department #10 have recommended against contact sports at this time. While this guidance from public health is only a recommendation, it places districts in a very difficult position.
Our insurance company has left the decision to play fall sports in the hands of local districts. They have done so while ensuring that the insurance pool will defend districts in the event of litigation, and they stand firm in their belief that districts are protected by governmental immunity. Attorneys at Thrun Law have also supported this position.
While true, the recommendation of the District's insurance carrier is to have all athletes complete a liability waiver to continue to participate in fall athletics. Thus, continuing to participate in fall athletics, while following all executive orders, laws and statutes, guidance from the MHSAA, Board policies, CDC guidelines, and necessary safety procedures and protocols is our recommendation as we move forward.
In order to do so, the District will now require all students to complete a COVID-19 Voluntary Participation Waiver in order to continue participating. Teams will have all students complete the COVID-19 voluntary participation waiver to ensure that we are protected from liability as much as possible to continue to participate in school sponsored athletics. This is new guidance that we must follow if we want to continue to play sports safely while protecting our liability.
Attached are the forms that need to be filled out. Student /athletes will have until Friday 10/2/2020 to turn these signed forms in. After that date students will not be eligible to play. They can turn them into Athletic Office, send them digitally to email@example.com or coaches can collect and turn them in as they come in.
Due dates for Winter and Spring seasons will prior to first competition.
Clubs and Activities due dates will be established by advisor or coach.
