Cell Phone Policy

As a school, it is our mission to provide our students with an environment that best meets their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs.  One such way we work to reach this endeavor is through our cell phone policy.  Research states that when a student has their phone in their possession, they easily become distracted and thus become inattentive to their work in school.  To that end, we have instituted a policy that requires that a student keep their cell phone in their locker during instructional / class time.

We understand that families may need to contact their student during the course of the school day.  If you need to contact your child during the academic day, please contact the OJ Main Office at (231) 845-3810.

Cell phones may be used by students before school, during their assigned lunch period, and after school.

If a teacher sees or hears a cell phone in class:

 - The teacher will confiscate the cell phone and the device will be stored in the main office with an administrator

- The student will be able to pick the cell phone up from an administrator at the end of the day

- The student will turn the cell phone in to the office at the start of the next school day

If students continue to violate the cell phone policy, they may be subject to increased consequences up to and including a daily check-in of devices to the office.
