Eighth Grade Camp

Eighth Grade Camp

O. J. DeJonge Middle School has a long history of providing outdoor education for our 8th grade students.  Our five-day 8th Grade Camp experience spans more than four decades and is a source of pride for our school.  Typically occurring in the third week of September each year, 8th graders are assembled in cabins, each with a counselor, and engage in a wide variety of outdoor, team-building and other activities that many have not had an opportunity to try.  Many OJMS staff and community members serve as counselors and activity leaders, and provide a rich and rewarding experience for the class.  The educational goals of 8th Grade Camp include the following:

Encourage Group Cooperation
Promote Team Building
Develop Class Unity
Establish a Sense of Trust in Self and Others
Instill Independence and Interdependence
Identify and Develop Leadership Skills

The camp costs approximately $250 per student and most students are able to raise the full amount through school fundraisers during their 6th grade year.

Camp Fundraisers

6th grade students sell holiday wreaths from October 1 to October 31. These wreaths will be delivered in Mid November. The wreaths are available in two sizes 20 in. and 28 in. The wreaths are purchased from Needlefast Evergreens in Ludington.

6th grade students sell cookie dough and gourmet popcorn in late winter.  More information will be provided later when we know dates and times of the sale.
